Brain Size

Throughout the evolutionary timeline, the development of the human brain vs. animals has been marked by the steady increase in what scientists call “the brain-to-body ratio.”

Of all the animals on Earth, human beings have the highest ratio when comparing the weight of the brain to total body weight. Although the average human brain at 1,350 grams weighs less than that of a whale (8000g), or an elephant (5000g), it’s 1/40 of our total body weight. By comparison, the brain of a whale or elephant is only 1/1200 of its total body weight.
