At the rear of the human brain, just behind the brain stem, is the cerebellum, which means “little brain” in latin. Its horizontally-furrowed structure makes it look very different from any other brain area.

Early research revealed that the cerebellum plays an essential role in our body’s coordination and fine-motor control. But we now know it also affects key cognitive functions, including our attention and the processing of language, music and other sensory stimuli.

So, the Little Brain has a big job.
