Plasticity

The Boundless Brain

The human brain is one of the final frontiers for science and knowledge. For an organ that guides us through life, we know precious little about its potential and power.

Until recently, it was thought that the brain developed for a specific period of time, and then essentially became static. Not so.

In fact, our brain has the miraculous power to literally reinvent itself throughout our lifetime. This uncanny resilience is called “plasticity,” an ability to change shape and even create new brain cells for those lost or damaged.

As we see in this report, the brain’s mysterious capacity to rewire itself has opened a new chapter in medical research, one that could only have been imagined a decade ago.
